Real-time Scale in Automation
 
Automation is a wide field with very different real time requirements. Starting in the range of hundreds of milliseconds, e.g. for traffic lights, the requirements become harder in the production world with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) and end in high end motion control for large printing machines. This talk will give an overview over the different real time requirements in automation and the solutions, which are nomally acting out of sight in a dark cabinet inside the machine.

Dr. René Graf war acht Jahre an der Entwicklung verschiedener Generationen der Simatic S7 SPS beteiligt, bevor er die Gruppenleitung bei der Vorfeldentwicklung (ATS) der Divisionen IA und DT übernahm. Sein Themenschwerpunkt umfasst sowohl das Thema Echtzeit-Betriebssysteme für Automatisierungsgeräte als auch die Entwicklung eingebetteter Systeme im allgemeinen.

Seine Gruppe entwickelt ein hart echtzeitfähiges Linux für den Einsatz in verschiedenen Produkten des Siemens-Automatisierungs-Portfolios.
